Meralco recovered from a narrow beating at the hands of a sister team and crushed another in NLEX, 105-91, on Friday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The Bolts, this time, played steadily throughout the contest at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila to send the Road Warriors reeling to their fourth straight defeat in the conference. ADVERTISEMENT

“We haven’t been having good starts. [In] the last three games, in the first quarter, we’ve been getting beat. Last game, we gave up 27 points. This game, we were just more in rhythm,” head coach Luigi Trillo said.

MANILA, Philippines–Being on the lower end of a playoff race may be discouraging to some, but not to Magnolia’s Zavier Lucero.

The Hotshots big man simply looks at it as additional fuel for triumph.

On Friday, the Hotshots bolstered their playoff chances in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup after defeating pesky Terrafirma, 89-84, behind the herculean effort of Lucero.

Still stinging from their Christmas Clasico loss to Ginebra last year, Lucero said the Hotshots now have enough to run for a better playoff positioning as the race reaches a fever pitch.

MANILA, Philippines—Terrence Romeo played his first game back in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup since being traded by San Miguel to Terrafirma at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday.

However, in Dyip’s close 89-84 loss at the hands of Magnolia, Romeo played sparingly as if he’s still not completely healed from the injury that held back his debut for Terrafirma. ADVERTISEMENT

“I was really just careful during this game. My mind was focused on taking care of myself first for a bit. There’s [always] that feeling where you think you’re all okay until something bad happens again and I don’t want that,” Romeo explained in Filipino.

PBA: On top of the world for now, NorthPort has work cut out for them

As undoubtedly the face of the NorthPort franchise, Arvin Tolentino can take pride in the Batang Pier’s continued rise in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup following a massive midweek win over Barangay Ginebra.

After a keenly awaited meeting the US central bank decided to lower borrowing costs for the first time since the start of the pandemic by opting for a half-point reduction.

“Very happy because of enjoying that winning feeling again, being No. 1 [in the team standings],” Tolentino said after the Batang Pier’s 119-116 escape act on Wednesday night at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

NorthPort improved to a league-best 7-1 record after the character-building result that all but assured the team’s spot in the quarterfinals, something it has not reached in the last two conferences.
